This Privacy Policy explains how Off the Grid Travelers, LLC (“Off the Grid,” “we,” “us”) collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our website at offthegridtravelers.com and our mobile app (collectively, the “Service”). By using the Service, you agree to this policy.
1. Who we are
Off the Grid Travelers, LLC is a travel-planning company based in Austin, Texas. You can reach us at hello@offthegridtravelers.com.
2. Information we collect
We collect information in three buckets:
- Account information. When you sign up, we collect the email address, display name, and handle you provide. If you upload a profile photo or additional photos, we store those with your account.
- Content you share with us. Travel reels, social-media URLs, notes, and screenshots you paste into the app, plus the trips, lists, saved spots, and meetup posts you create.
- Technical information. Device type, operating system, app version, IP address, and crash logs — collected automatically to keep the app stable and secure.
Where you grant the relevant iOS permission, we may also access your photo library (to attach images to your profile or chats) and your approximate location (to center the map). We do not access these without your permission.
3. How we use your information
- To provide the core Service: extracting places from reels, looking them up on Google Maps, and assembling itineraries.
- To personalize your map, trips, and meetup feed.
- To send essential service emails (e.g., account or security notices).
- To investigate abuse, fraud, and violations of our terms.
- To improve the product through aggregate, de-identified analytics.
4. How we share your information
We do not sell your personal information. We share limited data with third-party processors who help us operate the Service:
- Google (Maps SDK, Places API, Static Maps) — to render maps and resolve place names.
- OpenAI — to extract place names from text you submit.
- Groq — to transcribe audio from videos you submit, when needed.
- Apify — to fetch public metadata from social links you submit.
- Railway, Vercel, MongoDB Atlas — to host our backend and website.
- Law-enforcement or regulators when we're required to comply with a valid legal request.
5. Where your data lives
Account data and content are stored on servers in the United States operated by our hosting providers. Some on-device data (your local trips, saved spots, picker images) lives only on your device and is included in your iCloud backup if you have it enabled.
6. Your choices
- Access & deletion. Email hello@offthegridtravelers.com to request a copy of your data, or see our account deletion page for step-by-step instructions and what we erase vs retain.
- Permissions. You can revoke photo or location access any time in iOS Settings.
- Push notifications. You can opt out per notification type in the app, or globally in iOS Settings.
7. Children
The Service isn't directed at children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.
8. Security
We use industry-standard encryption in transit (HTTPS) and encrypt sensitive fields at rest. No system is perfectly secure — if we ever experience a breach affecting your data, we'll notify you as soon as we're legally permitted to.
9. Changes to this policy
We'll post any updates here and bump the effective date at the top. Material changes will also be announced in the app.
